Let it Snow...Unless it's in Beacon, New York
Woke up this mornin' to find Beacon covered with a scenic blanket of snow. I've never had to walk the Jesster in New York snow before so it was with some trepidation that I opened the front door. It's one thing strolling around Ham Lands on the two days a year it actually does snow - a novelty, even. It's quite another to leave the house and immediately find oneself battling through 18 inches of the white stuff, thrown onto the "sidewalk" by terribly efficient snow ploughs. They're really geared up for it here, unlike in my home-town of London where a light dusting of snow is enough to bring the entire tube network to a grinding halt, giving thousands of Londoners an excuse to stay at home and watch daytime TV. The track where we walk each day is at the bottom of the hill, necessitating a slip-sliding away stylee on the outward journey and a super-human struggle up the steep uphill incline coming back. "Stop!" screamed the famous legs. For the afternoon walk we took the car.
